How do you like your whale?

How do you like your whale?

The International Whaling Commission (IWC) meets from 16th - 26th June and pro-whaling countries remain determined to overturn the ban on commercial whaling.

Attempting to solve the divide in the IWC, an unacceptable compromise has been proposed. Japan would be allowed legitimate commercial whaling in its coastal waters in exchange for a reduction in its “scientific” whaling. The proposal ignores the 20,000 small whales, dolphins and porpoises killed in Japan every year. These coastal hunts are shockingly cruel, and the contaminants including mercury found in the meat and blubber are a threat to human health. Yet they are being packaged in products such as whale burgers in an attempt to appeal to the next generation of consumers.

EIA will be at the IWC to stop the whalers. But only with your help can we make sure that consumption doesn’t get the better of conservation.

So… how do you like your whale?
