A Future Without Forests? - Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa)

Classified by the World Conservation Union as vulnerable across its range, the clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), Borneo's largest cat species, is suffering from habitat destruction and human persecution. This cat is considered to be semi-arboreal and uses trees for resting. Its diet includes a number of arboreal species such as monkeys, gibbons and orangutans as well as other forest-dwelling animals.47 Clouded leopards are found in declining swamp forests such as those of the Sebangau river catchment area in Central Kalimantan which is currently threatened by the PLG rice project.48 In Sumatra, "the most serious threat [to the clouded leopard] and other large mammals ... is clear felling of forests for conversion to agriculture or human settlements".49
