Madhya Pradesh: The Tiger State - State Government's Empty Promises
Madhya Pradesh was named "The Tiger State" by its government in October 1994, in recognition of its importance to tigers and wildlife conservation, as well as in a bid to link development money to this high profile species. The following pages look at the promises made at the time by the State government and the failure of this government to deliver on those promises. The catalogue of corruption, ineptitude and lack of vision has backfired terribly on the state, as broken promises have been followed by systematic breaches of State and national law. Madhya Pradesh is a sad reflection on the crisis facing the tiger across India.
