Email Nippon Suisan’s European subsidiaries
Subject:
Dear Sir,
A suggested letter is below for guidance, but we recommend that you take the time to replace this text with your own individual letter, which will have a much greater effect. I am writing to request that you immediately urge your parent company Nippon Suisan to use its influence to shut down Japan's whaling fleet company, Kyodo Senpaku. Japan's whaling has been dominated by Maruha, Nippon Suisan and Kyokuyo for nearly a century- by the time the ban on commercial whaling was implemented in 1986, the three companies had killed nearly half a million whales. They also conspired with the Government of Japan to continue whaling for two decades after the international ban on commercial whaling, as the chief shareholders in the whaling fleet company, Kyodo Senpaku. A new report by the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) shows that, rather than shutting down the whaling fleet and abiding by the international laws that protect whales from whaling these companies recently donated their shares in Kyodo Senpaku to public interest corporations, thereby providing a massive subsidy for continuing commercial whaling rather than shutting down. EIA has also shown that, despite claims to the contrary, Nippon Suisan is still involved in the distribution and sale of whale meat. I am completely against any form of commercial whaling and firmly believe that Nippon Suisan should take responsibility for its past and present support of Japan's whaling. Nippon Suisan has the power and the influence with the Government of Japan to end the continued and expanding commercial whaling in the Antarctic and North Pacific. I'm writing to ask that, as an important subsidiary of Nippon Suisan, you call on your parent company to take all measures to ensure the permanent closure of the Kyodo Senpaku whaling fleet and an end to Japan's whaling hunting. I also urge your company to make a strong public statement to the effect that you do not support Japan's commercial whaling. Thank you for your attention.
Yours sincerely,
